Professional Profile

Since 1990: Full time professional translator. Thanks to my scientific background, I specialize in technical translations: industrial processes, mechanical engineering, electronics, plant engineering, plant automation, information technology, physics, pharmaceuticals, etc. Being a keen amateur cook, I have also translated texts on Italian cuisine.

Since 2000: I have spoken/taught at workshops and courses on translation memory systems and Web search techniques for translators and interpreters. Among the most notable were those for the Associazione Italiana Traduttori e Interpreti (Lombardy, Liguria, Lazio, Sicily and Tuscany branches), Agenzia Formativa TuttoEUROPA, Libera Università di Lingue e Comunicazione IULM, Consorzio ICoN and the Colegio de Traductores Públicos de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires (live webinar).; Translation memory systems should not be confused with machine translation services, such as those provided by major search engines. They are instead important tools that assist translators in the task of assuring quality, particularly as regards the integrity of the text and consistent use of terminology.

Since 2010: I have been an untenured lecturer in Computer tools for translation and interpreting (Degree in Interpreting and Communication) at the Libera Università di Lingue e Comunicazione IULM, Milan.

From 1985 to 1988: I taught English as a foreign language to adults at Linguaviva S.r.l., Milan.

From 1988 to 1990: I taught and organized English courses at Business English S.n.c., Milan.

From 1990 to 1994: I taught English at evening classes at the Civica Scuola di Lingue Straniere di Via Linneo, a school run by Milan City Council.

From 1996 to 2000: I taught English at evening classes at the British Institutes, Mortara, Italy.

Since 2002: I have taught English as a foreign language in evening classes organized by Mortara City Council.

1998: The Associazione Italiana Traduttori e Interpreti (Italian Association of Translators and Interpreters) admitted me as a regular member.

From 2002 to 2004: I was elected member of the executive council of the Lombardy branch of the Italian Association of Translators and Interpreters and organized courses and workshops for the members.

1985: I graduated in Theoretical Physics (BSc) at Queen Mary College, London University.

1985: I was awarded the Royal Society of Arts Preparatory Certificate for the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language at the International Teacher Training Institute, International House, London.

1989: I sat the Institute of Linguists Diploma in Italian at the British Council, Milan.

1989: I took an advanced level Spanish language course at the Universidad de Salamanca, Spain.

2004: Atril (the developers of the translation memory tool DéjàVu) awarded me the title of Atril Certified Training Partner.
